For years, I taught a variety of art classes to people of all ages in Los Angeles, California. I covered mediums ranging from painting and drawing to metal sculpture and woodworking. On the first day of class, I introduced this particular drawing technique to help students let go of the pressure to be perfect and to add some fun to the process. Over time, I developed a deep appreciation for the spontaneity and charm of this contour drawing created without looking. Recently, I realized how much I enjoy creating these drawings—they’ve become a refreshing break from my typically labor-intensive art-making practice. At a recent event, I noticed how much onlookers enjoyed watching me work, which led to a simple question: Do people want their pets drawn? The overwhelmingly positive response grew quickly, and now, through NOLOOK, I offer custom pet portraits that bring a contemporary, playful touch to capturing the unique personalities of pets.
